The Televerse #318- Spotlight on Rick and Morty Season 3 with Zack Handlen

Fall premieres and returns continue this week, giving us plenty to discuss on the podcast. The Televerse #298- Spotlight on Sense8 Season 2

Spring finale season is here (immediately following up winter finale season), and that, along with the continuing debuts of midseason and summer TV series, gives us plenty to discuss this week on the podcast. First up, we look at the week in comedy, including the premiere of Downward Dog and the return of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Then it’s finale time, with two of ABC’s strongest comedies signing off for the year, Speechless and Fresh Off the Boat. We pause briefly with reality to chat RuPaul’s Drag Race, and then we dive in with genre and drama, including another relationship-fueled Samurai Jack, a much-buzzed-about American Gods, the penultimate episodes of Supergirl, The Flash, and Elementary, and another topical The Handmaid’s Tale. The Televerse #284- Spotlight on Jane the Virgin, “Chapter Fifty-Four”

Between season finales, premieres, previews, and a surprise shake-up on Jane the Virgin, it’s been a big week in TV. First up this episode, Noel and Kate talk comedy, looking at the premiere of Comedy Central’s Detroiters and some of ABC’s Valentine’s Day comedies before having an unusually contentious discussion of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s season two finale. Next up are the drama and genre offerings, with Noel previewing CBS All Access’ The Good Fight, Kate joining in on Noel’s skepticism over Legion, and both enjoying the role reversals on this week’s Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow. Afterward, it’s time to spotlight Jane the Virgin, which closed out Part Two with the lovely and emotional “Chapter Fifty-Four.” Spoilers abound, so wait to listen to the spotlight until you’re caught up. The Televerse #281- 2017 TV Resolutions

Kate spent much of this week getting ready to get her feminism on at the D.C. Woman’s March, so for this episode, we tried something a bit different: A manageable show list. First, Noel dives in with his recent reality viewing, Frontline and Terrace House. Afterward, we move on to the comedies, with Kate singing the praises of Billy on the Street, Noel breaking down Speechless and Fresh Off the Boat, and both giving their thoughts on a near-breakthrough Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Then we round out the podcast by talking through our final thoughts on our 2016 TV resolutions and deciding on what their resolutions for 2017 should be.

The Televerse #280- 2017 Winter TV Preview

January is well underway and in TV, that means it’s premiere time once again. Noel and Kate turn their attentions back to weekly TV offerings and talk through a slew of comedies, including the fantastic new one Day at a Time, the premieres of The Mick, It’s Always Sunny…, and Man Seeking Woman, and fun installments of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Sweet/Vicious, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. We also dive in with a trio of recent socially-minded episodes from ABC’s comedy lineup: Fresh Off the Boat’s citizenship-centered “How to Be an American”, black-ish’s take on post-2016 election malaise, “Lemons”, and Speechless’ trope-busting “H-e-r-Hero”. After comedy, it’s time for genre, drama, and reality, including Netflix’s new A Series of Unfortunate Events, HBO’s Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds documentary Bright Lights, the return of Match Game, and more. Life has arisen in an unfortunate way this week, prompting a somewhat abridged version of the podcast.
