The Televerse #342- Spotlight on Adventure Time: “Blenanas”, “Jake the Starchild”, “Temple of Mars”, and “Gumbaldia”

With the series finale of Adventure Time looming, Noel and Kate take extra time this week to dive deep with the show’s penultimate batch of episodes, spotlighting “Blenanas”, “Jake the Starchild”, “Temple of Mars”, and “Gumbaldia” and speculating about what the final arc may bring (and how very not ready we are to say goodbye to Ooo). Before that, however, there’s plenty of TV to discuss. First up, we look at the week’s reality and comedies, including the season 10 premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race, the finales of Fresh Off the Boat and Speechless, and another terrific Atlanta. Then we move over to the drama and genre offerings, including another fun The Good Fight, the finale of The X-Files, and strong installments of Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, and iZombie. What are you hoping to see in the final episodes of Adventure Time? Has iZombie run into new trouble with its brain balance? Reach out and let us know what you think.

The Televerse #294- Girls with Caroline Siede

The April onslaught continues, with another handful of premieres and finales giving Noel and Kate lots of TV to discuss. We kick things off with the comedies, including season one of Girlboss, the premiere of Veep, the finale of Girls, and much more. Next up are the genre offerings, including the premieres of Doctor Who and Class, and some reality talk, with a catchup on The Amazing Race and another lackluster RuPaul’s Drag Race. Then we round out our week with the dramas, including the premieres of The Leftovers and Fargo, the finale of The Good Fight, and more. Afterward, The A.V. Club’s Caroline Siede returns to the DVD Shelf to help Kate reminisce on Girls, its legacy, and how it shaped, and was shaped by, the way we discuss television.

The Televerse #293- Season Spotlight on 13 Reasons Why

April TV is ramping up, and Noel and Kate have (most of) it covered. After a Mon-El-themed opening discussion, we start off Our Week in TV with the comedy and genre offerings, including a preview of the upcoming Veep season premiere and looks at the Angie Tribeca premiere, the triumphant return of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and lighter episodes of Samurai Jack and iZombie. Next we talk drama and reality, including a preview of Hulu’s upcoming The Handmaid’s Tale, the mega-sized American Experience: The Great War, a princess-themed RuPaul’s Drag Race, memory-fueled The Good Fight, transitional American Crime, and a thrilling Harriet Tubman spotlight episode of Underground, “Minty.” Afterward, the season spotlight is back, as we dive in with Netflix’s hopefully one-season wonder, 13 Reasons Why.

The Televerse #292- Murder, She Wrote with Charlotte Howell

The DVD Shelf makes its triumphant return this week on The Televerse, with Assistant Professor of Media Studies and Television Studies Charlotte Howell of Boston University joining Kate and Noel to dive deep with the delicious comfort food that is Murder, She Wrote. Before that, though, we have a full week in TV to discuss. We kick things off with the comedies, including the premiere of IFC’s Brockmire, the season premiere of Archer: Dreamland, and entertaining new installments of Fresh Off the Boat and Speechless. After sharing our thoughts on a cheer-tastic RuPaul’s Drag Race, we move on to the week’s genre offerings, including the premieres of Dimension 404, Rick and Morty, and iZombie, and the finale of Legends of Tomorrow. Then we round out the week with the drama offerings, including the return of Prison Break, the much-anticipated Oscars episode of Feud: Bette and Joan, another Cato-centered Underground, an intense American Crime, and a divisive The Good Fight.

The Televerse #291- 30 Day TV Challenge

It’s another marathon episode of The Televerse, with recent TV talk galore, as well as some more TV quiz fun. First up, Noel and Kate break down a full week in TV, starting with the comedies, including the finale of Review, more Grace and Frankie season three, the premiere of Imaginary Mary, an Elijah-centric Girls, and the tortuous (to at least one of the hosts) Murder She Baked. Next up are the genre offerings, including a final look at Iron Fist season one, another strong Samurai Jack, a roundup of The CW’s superhero series, and the suspicion-confirming Legion finale. Then we talk a little reality, with the premieres of RuPaul’s Drag Race and The Amazing Race and the conclusion of Planet Earth II, and we round out the week with a handful of dramas, including Netflix’s new 13 Reasons Why, the premiere of Rebel, a much-anticipated Cato-centric Underground, and another The Good Fight. Afterwards, we knuckle down, timers in hand, to tackle the 30 Day TV Challenge in 30 minutes, with varying levels of success.

The Televerse #290- 2017 TV Resolution Check-in #1: ACCA, Seiren, Interviews with Monster Girls, The Katering Show

March is coming to a close, which means we’re well overdue a check-in on our 2017 TV resolutions. This week, Noel and Kate report on how we’ve been doing with their goals to watch more anime and explore YouTube web series. First, however, we spend some quality time with our week in TV, starting with the genre offerings. Noel looks at the premiere of Into the Badlands, Noel and Kate gush over another beautiful Samurai Jack, we dive deep with the Supergirl/The Flash musical cross-over, and we agree to disagree on Legion. Next up are the comedies and dramas, including the return of Grace and Frankie, a crushing Superstore, a romantic Jane the Virgin, powerful episodes of The Americans and Underground, more soapy fun with Greenleaf, and a disappointingly pat The Good Fight.

The Televerse #289- ClexaCon 2017 Allies in the Media panel with Dr. Elizabeth Bridges and Bridget Liszewski

It’s our final week of ClexaCon talk, here at The Televerse. After a lengthy look at the week in TV, we round out the podcast with audio from ClexaCon 2017’s It Takes a Village: Allies in the Media panel, moderated by Dr. Elizabeth Bridges and featuring Bridget Liszewski of The TV Junkies, along with Noel and Kate. A big thank you once again to ClexaCon for inviting us to speak, and to attendee Kate of TVWriter.com, who recorded the audio from the panel and provided it to us. Before we get to the panel, however, Noel and Kate talk through our very full week of viewing. First up are the comedies, including the premieres of Trial & Error and Review, a rare misfire from black-ish, and solid entries from The Detour, Fresh Off the Boat, and Speechless. Next is reality, with looks at this week’s much-discussed Trump taxes episode of The Rachel Maddow Show and series four of The Great British Bake Off, newly added to Netflix. For genre, the premieres of Samurai Jack and Iron Fist leave us with very different tastes in our mouths, and we’re similarly mixed on Steven Universe, The Flash, and Legion, and last up are the dramas, including the premieres of Greenleaf and American Crime, the Elementary Kitty two-parter, and new installments of Feud: Bette and Joan and The Good Fight.
