The Televerse #299- Supergirl Season 2 with Dr. Elizabeth Bridges

Finale season pushes ahead, full steam, prompting another of our trademark marathon episodes. We kick things off with the week in comedy, reality, and drama, looking at the finales of Archer: Dreamland, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Jane the Virgin, and Elementary as well as a Drag Race shocker and a less-than-stellar The Handmaid’s Tale. After a quick break, it’s time for the genre offerings, including the much-hyped Laura-centric American Gods, the long-awaited return of Twin Peaks, and the finales of Samurai Jack, The Flash, and Arrow. Then to round out the discussion, friend of the podcast Dr. Elizabeth Bridges returns to help us dive deep on Supergirl’s finale and season two overall, from the highs (Sanvers, Lena, Cat) to the lows (Mon-El, James, basically all the guys), and everything in-between.

The Televerse #298- Spotlight on Sense8 Season 2

Spring finale season is here (immediately following up winter finale season), and that, along with the continuing debuts of midseason and summer TV series, gives us plenty to discuss this week on the podcast. First up, we look at the week in comedy, including the premiere of Downward Dog and the return of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Then it’s finale time, with two of ABC’s strongest comedies signing off for the year, Speechless and Fresh Off the Boat. We pause briefly with reality to chat RuPaul’s Drag Race, and then we dive in with genre and drama, including another relationship-fueled Samurai Jack, a much-buzzed-about American Gods, the penultimate episodes of Supergirl, The Flash, and Elementary, and another topical The Handmaid’s Tale. Lastly, after wrapping up our week in TV, Noel and Kate head over to the spotlight section and take a long, luxurious look at Sense8’s beautiful, emotional, and surprisingly suspenseful second season.

The Televerse #290- 2017 TV Resolution Check-in #1: ACCA, Seiren, Interviews with Monster Girls, The Katering Show

March is coming to a close, which means we’re well overdue a check-in on our 2017 TV resolutions. This week, Noel and Kate report on how we’ve been doing with their goals to watch more anime and explore YouTube web series. First, however, we spend some quality time with our week in TV, starting with the genre offerings. Noel looks at the premiere of Into the Badlands, Noel and Kate gush over another beautiful Samurai Jack, we dive deep with the Supergirl/The Flash musical cross-over, and we agree to disagree on Legion. Next up are the comedies and dramas, including the return of Grace and Frankie, a crushing Superstore, a romantic Jane the Virgin, powerful episodes of The Americans and Underground, more soapy fun with Greenleaf, and a disappointingly pat The Good Fight.

The Televerse #284- Spotlight on Jane the Virgin, “Chapter Fifty-Four”

Between season finales, premieres, previews, and a surprise shake-up on Jane the Virgin, it’s been a big week in TV. First up this episode, Noel and Kate talk comedy, looking at the premiere of Comedy Central’s Detroiters and some of ABC’s Valentine’s Day comedies before having an unusually contentious discussion of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s season two finale. The Televerse #282- Remembering Mary Tyler Moore

We’re back closer to our regular format this week, though the loss of TV icon Mary Tyler Moore has prompted us to forego the DVD Shelf in favor of a discussion of some of her work and her legacy. First up, however, Noel and Kate dive in with the fantastic finale of The Good Place and intriguing finale of Sweet/Vicious, followed by some reality catchups and a few thoughts on Jane the Virgin and the pesky Santa Ana winds of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Afterward, we head over to the drama and genre offerings, including the premiere of Riverdale, the return of The CW’s superhero lineup, and a full week of Adventure Time. Rounding out the podcast this week is our aforementioned tribute to Mary Tyler Moore and her feminist trailblazing, precise and potent comedy chops, and infectiously warm spirit.

The Televerse #274- Enterprise with Caroline Siede

We’re still in our post-Thanksgiving food comas here at The Televerse (or we would be, if we weren’t both traveling). Fortunately, there’s plenty of interesting and entertaining TV this week to re-energize us as we recover from one holiday and prepare for the next. First up, Noel gives his thoughts on Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life and Noel and Kate break down Bob’s Burgers’ latest holiday episode and the midseason finale of Jane the Virgin. After the comedies, it’s a miniscule week in drama, but the finale of Queen Sugar gives us plenty to discuss. Then we head over to genre, with Kate talking Steven Universe, Noel looking at the premiere of Incorporated, and both of us diving in with the big CW DC crossover, first Supergirl’s mostly standalone episode, and then the “Invasion!” on The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow. Afterward, friend of the show Caroline Siede of The A.V. Club returns to help us round out our Star Trek DVD Shelf cycle with the final, and canonically first, series in the franchise, Enterprise.
