With the Emmys over and done with, it’s officially the start of the fall network TV season. The pilots will come en masse next week, but, along with one of the best one-night comedy lineups in quite a while (Thursday’s Parks and Rec premiere, Wilfred finale, Childrens Hospital UK, NTSF:SD:SUV::, and the culmination of Louie’s three-part Late Night adventure, which we have in the spotlight this week), we did get premieres for Treme, How I Met Your Mother, Partners, and Castle, along with finales for SYTYCD, and Awkward.. After going through the rest of our week in TV, including Parenthood, Doctor Who, The Thick of It, the Emmys, The Voice, Alphas, and Revolution, we welcome Stephanie Smith from PotentialCast, RedemptionCast, and What’s On with Steph and Des to the DVD Shelf to help us take a nice long look at Jason Katim and Peter Berg's beautiful and heartfelt series, Friday Night Lights.
We’re back to our regular format this week, with Louie in the spotlight and Steve Prokopy, Capone from Aint it Cool, joining us at the DVD Shelf to take a look at TV horror in the form of three TV movies and miniseries: 1979’s Salem’s Lot, 1971’s Duel, and 1973’s Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. Before that, though, it’s a full week in TV, with pilots galore (The New Normal, Guys with Kids, The Mob Doctor, Revolution), a few finales (SYTYCD performance, Sex House, Lost Girl), a couple premieres (Parenthood, Boardwalk Empire), and much more (Childrens Hospital, NTSF:SD:SUV::, Awkward., Wilfred, Doctor Who, The Thick of It, The Voice, Alphas). Then, to wrap things up, we take a brief look at Sunday’s 2012 Emmy Awards, with our picks for the best series and lead/supporting actors.
With the 2012–13 TV season officially underway, it’s time for our fall TV preview, where we take a look at all the new network series, day by day, to see what looks good, what is good (of those pilots we’ve been able to see so far), and what it may be best to steer clear of. Before that, though, it may have been a rather scarce week in TV, but what we got was pretty darn good, including Parenthood (check out the fabulous season four premiere tonight!), the Daily Show and Colbert Report DNC coverage, So You Think You Can Dance, Childrens Hospital, NTSF:SD:SUV::, Doctor Who, The Thick of It, The Voice season three premiere, and Alphas.
With Breaking Bad finishing up its 2012 run, the summer TV season winding down, and TV taking Labor Day off, this was a fairly light week. After breaking down our week In TV, including Treme season two, American Ninja Warrior, The Daily Show/Colbert Report coverage of the RNC, Sex House, So You Think You Can Dance, the mid-season finale of Futurama, Childrens Hospital, NTSF:SD:SUV::, Awkward., Wilfred, Louie, the series seven premiere of Doctor Who, and Grimm, we welcome SOS’s own Ricky D back to the show to help us take a look at the mid-season finale of Breaking Bad, as well as the rest of this half-season.
